The Waterberg Biosphere, Limpopo

Limpopo Province’s largest mountain range, the Waterberg is home to the Waterberg biosphere, described as South Africa’s best kept secret. The village of Vaalwater is central to this biosphere, more than 5000 square kilometers of vistas and scenic valleys, perfect for Big Five habitat and off the beaten track tourism. There are also five star luxury lodges on offer in the various private game reserves rivaling, Timbavati, or Sabi Sands private game reserves.

Besides nature, this area is incredibly rich in minerals, originating from the edge of the massive Bushveld igneous complex. The area is also steeped in both ancient and recent history, ranging from artifacts left by our Australopethican ancestors, to San (bushmen) tribes to more recent settlers, the Bapedi and Voortrekkers, who all left their mark here.

Only two hour from Johannesburg, this wilderness haven is easily within reach of the international airports, and is also a malaria free area.
